Mark Noble, who works as a software engineer for an online charter school, said he'd look for savings through competition for providing city goods and services.
"We need to use the bidding process as much as we can to make sure we're getting the most out of our money," he said. That could include privatizing trash collection and other city services if the city could get a better deal, he said.
Instead of going out and offering tax breaks to attract business, he said, the city should cut the budget and taxes to bring jobs. "If you want birds in your backyard, you don't go out and buy birds, you just make it a hospitable place where the birds just want to show up."
